Celtic youngster Conor Hazard makes a brilliant U-turn on Parkhead’s future
Celtic youngster Conor Hazard made a class turnaround on his future after signing a new two-year contract today.
The Hoops officially announced the news via their official Twitter account. This means Hazard is linked with the club until the summer of 2023.
This puts an end to any speculation about the player’s long-term future. Hazard’s original deal was set to expire this summer. This was despite the player breaking into Parkhead’s first team earlier this season.
In the summer, Hazard’s future at Parkhead looked questionable. The player reportedly rejected the new terms as he sought more consistent playing time [The Courier]. It also came after Celtic blocked a loan at Dundee.
However, he signs a new contract after making seven appearances for the club this term. In recent weeks, he has been Scott Bain’s replacement again. Vasilis Barkas abandoned the last teams.
A huge boost for Celtic; Conor Hazard will have Parkhead jersey in sight as future is assured
It’s great in every way that this deal has been made. For Celtic, this ties together a promising young shooter with extensive first-team experience at the club. For Hazard, this gives him a huge opportunity to impress a new manager.
As it stands, there isn’t a solid number one in Parkhead. With Barkas out of the question and Bain clearly not good enough for the long haul, this is a place to be seized.
It will be interesting to see if John Kennedy makes a change this weekend as well. Celtic travel to Tannadice to face Dundee United in the Premiership. Including Hazard, who has yet to lose a game in the first team, could be a major change now that he’s engaged his future.
Its main focus, however, will be on the long term. In the past he has had loan spells with Falkirk, Dundee and Partick Thistle respectively. It’s time to put an end to this. Hazard’s short- and long-term future must be at Celtic Park.
One of the main weak points that have worried fans in recent months is its lack of air dominance. But the stats don’t lie and Hazard has managed four clean sheets in five appearances.
It remains to be seen where he stands with the new manager this summer. For now, however, it’s great to see him write his future with the Hoops.
In other news, Celtic have the opportunity to make history in May.
