Chelsea star Ross Barkley joins Aston Villa on season-long loan
The Englishman will join a Villa team on a good footing. They are currently in fourth place after winning their first two games of the season.
Barkley was an unused replacement in our Carabao Cup clash against Tottenham Hotspur yesterday. The Blues crashed on penalties after Erik Lamela called off Timo Werner’s first game in regulation.
Barkley has also failed to start any of our three Premier League games this season. A busy summer saw the midfielder fall down the Chelsea hierarchy.
With Kai Havertz, Mason Mount, Callum Hudson-Odoi, Christian Pulisic and Hakim Ziyech all available at Stamford Bridge, Barkley has been found to be surplus to need this season.
In some ways, this could prove to be beneficial for the player himself. Barkley is more likely to play regularly at Villa Park.
With the Euros set to take place next summer, he has a chance to show Gareth Southgate what he can potentially bring to the England squad.
A few days before the window, the workforce is taking shape for the 2020/21 campaign. Academy graduate Ruben Loftus-Cheek could also be ready to switch loans in the coming days.
The midfielder has struggled since returning from injury and will benefit from regular playing time elsewhere.
More news about Chelsea
Barkley has been with Chelsea since January 2018. Despite some scintillating performances, the 26-year-old struggled to secure a starting spot at Stamford Bridge.
So far he has made 86 appearances in all competitions, registering 11 goals and 11 assists.
