Convicted New Hampshire sex offender arrested on other charges
CONCORD, NH — A felon and sex offender, convicted of sexual assault of a child in 2009 and charged with sexual assault in February, now faces additional charges.
Thomas Thibeault, 36, whose last known address is Springfield Road in Newport, was arrested by New Hampshire State Police on Saturday on charges of aggravated sexual assault and duty to report charges, both felonies.
Thibeault was arrested in February on six counts of aggravated sexual assault and one of second-degree assault-domestic violence-strangulation after an incident in Salisbury. During the investigation, an additional sexual assault was identified, said Amber Lagace, state police public information officer.
“D Troop detectives worked diligently on this case, in conjunction with the Merrimack County District Attorney’s Office,” which led to Thibeault’s arrest on Saturday, she said.
Thibeault has been remanded in custody and will be arraigned in Merrimack County Superior Court on Tuesday.
According to superior court records, Thibeault is a felon and a sex offender due to an October 2008 felony sexual assault charge and an August 2008 reckless driving charge in Sullivan County. He pleaded guilty to both counts in April 2009. The victim in the sexual assault case was under 16, according to state records. Thibeault pleaded guilty to a probation violation in November 2010, related to the cases.
Thibeault was convicted of a criminal trespassing charge in May 2012.
In December 2016, he filed a civil lawsuit against Disnard Elementary School in Claremont, but no information was available on the details of the case.
Thibeault requested the charges be dropped in July 2021, but that request was later withdrawn. In February and March, the Merrimack County District Attorney’s Office requested court documents relating to the 2009 sexual assault case.
