Denise O’Sullivan completes loan transfer to Brighton
Republic of Ireland midfielder Denise O’Sullivan has been loaned to Brighton until the end of 2020 by North Carolina Courage.
O’Sullivan was voted Courage’s Most Valuable Player by her teammates last season after helping them win back-to-back NWSL Championship titles.
The 26-year-old has had Australian League loan spells with Canberra United and Western Sydney Wanderers during the offseason in America for the past two years.
“I am very happy to have joined Brighton & Hove Albion,” said O’Sullivan. “It’s a great opportunity to challenge myself with a talented team in a league that is getting more and more competitive.
“It was a little frustrating having to quarantine for a few weeks, but I have kept myself in shape and can’t wait to help the club move forward.”
Her move to Brighton will also be a boost for Republic of Ireland boss Vera Pauw ahead of the upcoming European Championships qualifiers with Ukraine and Germany as it will help O’Sullivan to connect with the team.
We are delighted to have Denise with us, “Brighton boss Hope Powell said of O’Sullivan’s arrival on England’s south coast.
“She has a proven scoring record in some of the best leagues in the world and she will also bring a lot of experience playing in big games against the best opposition.
“She has had to self-quarantine since arriving from the United States, but now she has started training with us and getting to know the rest of the group. We really can’t wait to see what she can bring to the group on and off the pitch.
