Fifteen TV Shows You Didn’t Know were filmed in Berkshire

It’s no surprise that many TV show spotters have chosen Berkshire as their backdrop.

The county is home to the River Kennet as well as lush countryside and historic towns, making it the perfect location for television production companies to shoot their programs.

Film and television crews have filmed places such as Eton College, Bray, Englefield House, downtown Bracknell and Windsor Great Park, to name a few.

Berkshire is also home to movie studios, including Arborfield Studios and Bray Studios, where the cult horror film Alien was filmed in 1978.

1. Downton Abbey

Downton abbey is filmed at Highclere Castle, a Grade 1 listed country mansion which is five miles from Newbury.

2. The office

Office was written by Reading-born Ricky Gervais, and the program is based at a branch of a paper company at Slough Trading Estate.

In the show, the credits feature various landmarks of Slough.

3. Kill Eve

Scenes from the first series of Kill Eve were shot in Reading Prison.

4. Episodes

In 2012, Friends Star Matt LeBlanc was spotted filming at John Nike Leisuresport in Bracknell for the series Episodes, which is an American-British sitcom.

5. Taboo

Taboo introduces Tom Hardy who plays the character of James Delaney who is involved in the filthy belly of 19th century society.

The Mapledurham Estate Mill near Reading, Berkshire, features prominently in the series.

6. Doctor Who

An episode of Dr Who was filmed four miles from Reading at Swallowfield Park in 1972, with Jon Pertwee as the third medic.

7. Mr. Bean

A live-action scene Mister Bean The TV series broadcast by ITV was filmed at Jubilee Road, Littlewick Green, Maidenhead.

8. The Crown

The hit television series The crown scenes filmed at two Berkshire schools for season four.

On the show, the Queen’s cousins ​​are reportedly dead, but are found unharmed, locked in a care home which is actually Reddam House, a Berkshire boarding school in Wokingham.

The school is used as The Royal Earlswood Institution, where the two cousins ​​once lived.

9. Sherlock Holmes

In the episode “A Scandal in Belgravia”, one of the scenes was shot in Cliveden’s French dining room, Windsor.

In the scene, the character Irene Adler drugs Sherlock Holmes, played by Benedict Cumberbatch.

10. The witcher

There were rumors that the second series of The witcher was filmed in Swinley Forest, Bracknell after production crews were seen around land belonging to the Crown Estate.

11. Midsomer Murders

In March of this year, Littlewick Green near Maidenhead served as the backdrop for an episode of Midsomer Murders.

The episode will be called “The Scarecrow Murders” and is scheduled to air later this year or in early 2022.

12. The bad man

In 2014, James Corden filmed a sitcom called The bad man, who sees a Berkshire County Council employee, played by Matthew Baynton, accidentally become involved in an international conspiracy.

Bracknell is the backdrop for the show and the character of Baynton is tasked with creating the slogan for the regenerated city.

13. Inside man

Inside man is a drama series written by Russell T Davies starring Stanley Tucci and David Tennant that is currently being filmed.

In early September, Broad Street in Wokingham was closed for filming to take place.

14. Bridgerton

Bridgerton is a Netflix drama based on a hit romance novel by Julia Quinn.

Some scenes from the series were filmed in Windsor Great Park in 2020.

15. Dracula

The BBC Gothic Series Dracula, written by Russel T Davies was filmed in a few places in Berkshire.

The series was shot in 2019 and some of the graveyard scenes were shot at Caversham Cemetery, while other scenes were shot at Bray Studios.
