Giant issues retail stop-sale notice affecting four bike models

NEWBURY PARK, Calif. (BRAIN) – Authorized dealers of Giant bikes received a stop-sale email notification on Friday regarding four models on which the adjustable stems can come loose. Giant is in the process of notifying the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission.

This stop sale notice applies to the 2021 Flourish FS 1, Cypress DX, Escape 3 Comfort and Alight 3 Comfort models.

Giant was advised by one of the two manufacturers of these models that the adjustable stems it was producing did not meet its quality standards. As a result, the handlebar stem may become loose while the bike is being rolled. Giant received a report that the handlebar stem came off and caused a crash that left no injuries. There were other instances where the rod was difficult to tighten properly.

Giant will replace the stems on all 2021 Flourish FS 1, Cypress DX, Escape 3 Comfort and Alight 3 Comfort models in a single manufacturing facility. The replacement program does not include other models or styles of the brand’s bikes or others made in the second manufacturing facility.

Authorized dealers are urged to identify affected models immediately and contact Giant. Additionally, Giant recommends determining how many customers have purchased these bikes and contacting the company with that information. Dealers are requested to inform customers who have purchased the affected bikes.

Once the replacement program is announced, Giant will coordinate the exchange of stems and help replace those on customer bikes.

Affected models have serial numbers starting with the letter “P”, as shown in the photo below. Models that are not affected have serial numbers beginning with the letter “K”.
