Newbury Church open for daily prayer for Ukraine
Residents of West Berkshire are asked to pray for the people of Ukraine and those who help them.
St Nicolas Church in Newbury will be open for prayer every weekday lunchtime between 12.30pm and 1.30pm from now until Easter.
There will be prayer cards and other resources available for people to pray quietly on their own.
At 1 p.m. there will be prayers led by a different pastor each day.
The initiative is being carried out on behalf of all churches in Newbury, as part of Christians Together in the Newbury Area (CTNA).
The rector of St Nic’s Church, the Reverend Will Hunter Smart, said: “There has been an outpouring of compassion and action in response to the war in Ukraine.
“Many people have made relief donations or signed up to help welcome the refugees.
“In addition to this fantastic response, we invite everyone to join us as we pray for all those caught up in this terrible conflict and to pray for peace.
“People can join us for as long or as short a time as they can.”
Ste Bate, President of the CTNA, added: “We have all watched with shock, horror and compassion what is happening in Ukraine.
“This is an opportunity for us to come together as a community to pray for God’s intervention in this heartbreaking situation.”
