Newbury Thieves Brag About “Stealing Your Cat, Come Back And Get It” on Snapchat
A thief goaded the owner of a cat he had stolen by posting a video of himself laughing and saying, “You stole your cat, come back and get it.”
Biscuit, a three-year-old all white cat with piercing eyes, was kidnapped in Newbury town center and marched through town.
A clip posted to Snapchat shows a man in a hoodie holding the pet, with a mug and bottle of McDonald’s in his other hand, while another man films him and laughs.
At one point, the man is seen near a pub, holding Biscuit under his arms as his legs hang in an awkward position.
Her owner, Sophie Lightowlers, only learned that she was missing when friends sent her the pictures.
“When I saw the video for the first time, I felt physically sick,” she said. “I was absolutely disgusted that someone treated an animal like that, then I realized it was my cat, then my worry turned to rage.
“It always makes me angry to think about it because Biscuit is such a friendly cat and she loves the attention of strangers. I really feel like they took advantage of her kindness to mistreat her.
Biscuit was eventually freed by the men and Sophie was able to retrieve her.
The cat was “a little traumatized” at first but has now made a full recovery, Sophie said.
She reported the incident to the RSPCA and says she had no apologies from the men, who attempted to excuse their behavior by claiming that they believed the cat was a stray cat.
