Newbury’s Berkshire Farm Girl lands Swarfega’s toughest business title for farmers

Following an uphill battle on social media recently, the public voted farming as Swarfega’s toughest business for 2022 with farmer Eleanor Gilbert announced victorious.

Since the contest launched in January, traders across the country have submitted photos of their toughest jobs in hopes of being honored as Swarfega’s toughest job.

The competition received over 75 entries from a wide range of trades. The winning profession of agriculture – which also took the crown in 2020 – made up the largest number of entrants, followed by masons and mechanics. Electricians, painters and scaffolders also made sure to throw their hard hats into the ring.

In the end, it was Eleanor who won the All Britain Farmers’ title, a feat that earned her a £200 Amazon voucher and a ton of respect. Second place went to arborists, with train engineers taking third place.

Her image of her hard at work on the farm made its way through other solid entries, from builders to mechanics.

Eleanor told us, “I just entered a photo for swarfega to see if farmers could win the Toughest Trade contest and we won!

“Thank you very much Swarfega for this excellent prize! I will definitely scrub well after a long harvest.

Celebrating her victory on Twitter, Eleanor simply said, “Farmers broke her.”
