A music festival held in the heart of the Abbey Ruins has been canceled this year.
The cancellation is the second in three years after Coronavirus postponed organizer Heavy Pop’s 2020 concerts.
Following the pandemic postponement, the company has condensed three of its festivals in the last eight months, making Down at the Abbey 2022 “unsustainable”.

2. Reading burger joints in dispute on an outdoor seating area
Two family-run Reading Burger restaurants are embroiled in a dispute over a new covered outdoor seating area for one of the restaurants in Cemetery Junction.
A few weekends ago, builders on behalf of Fat Twins and Kaspa’s began constructing a new covered area, called a pergola, for the Granby shared location.
But Smash N Grab neighbors argued the pergola encroached on their business.

3. More free bin bags for Woodley, Earley and Wokingham
Free bin bags will no longer be provided to residents of Wokingham Borough, which includes Woodley and Earley.
The decision was made to reduce the use of non-recyclable single-use plastics, according to the council.
Wokingham Borough Council is looking to save £120,000 a year with the move.

5. Arrest after Woodley man killed in three-vehicle crash in Brimpton
A 58-year-old man from Woodley died at the scene of a three-vehicle crash on Monday July 11.
A 22-year-old man from Leicester has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and driving over the alcohol limit.
The driver of one vehicle, a 59-year-old man from Reading, was seriously injured and was taken to hospital for treatment.
