Saracens director of rugby Mark McCall is due to take a short break from the game for medical reasons.

McCall has been in charge of the club for the past decade, winning five Gallagher Premiership titles and three European crowns.

“For medical reasons, Mark McCall will take a short break from his position as Director of Rugby at Saracens,” read a club statement.

People will always come first at our club and Mark will receive all the support and time he needs. #Stronger together ⚫️🔴

“People will always come first at our club and Mark will receive all the support and time he needs.

“In the meantime, we ask everyone to respect Mark’s privacy. Mark is obviously more than confident in the coaching staff he worked with for many years to temporarily take the reins.

McCall, a former Ireland international, remained at the helm throughout the salary cap scandal which saw Saracens relegated to the Championship for the 2020-21 season.

Saracens sit second in the Premiership table and could yet qualify for the Challenge Cup knockout stage.
