Police are calling for witnesses and information after arresting a man from Slough following an accident that severely damaged a Wokingham shoe store.

A silver Mercedes E250 burst into the Clarks store in Market Place shortly after midnight on Friday, December 10.

The car was then removed from the wreckage of the store – the brickwork and store facade suffered “significant damage” – and was driven towards Bracknell.

Shortly after, Thames Valley Police officers in an unmarked police car discovered a heavily damaged silver Mercedes stationary on the side of London Road.

A 25-year-old man from Slough has been arrested for dangerous driving, drunk driving, driving without insurance and failing to comply with the accident – he has since been released under investigation.

PC investigating officer Peter Screen, based at Loddon Valley Police Station, said: ‘I ask anyone who witnessed the collision or has CCTV captured it to please come forward.

“You can do this by reporting online or by calling 101, citing the reference number 43210556941.

“Alternatively, for 100% anonymity, you can also call the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
