Texas to Pay Off Thousands of Law Enforcement Student Loan Debt with New Program

Texans who become law enforcement officers can now receive up to $ 20,000 in student loan forgiveness under a new state program.
The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board plans to launch a loan repayment program in September to help newly appointed law enforcement officers with student debt.
Governor Greg Abbott signed Bill SB 16 in 2019, to inspire Texans to pursue careers in law enforcement and stay on the job.
Applicants can receive up to $ 20,000 in loan forgiveness over a five-year period. Applications will be selected on a first come, first served basis until funds are no longer available, according to a THECB statement.
