Turkish giants Fenerbahce are set to launch a bid for Reading FC striker Lucas Joao – Wokingham.Today
Turkish giants Fenerbahce are reportedly keen on signing Reading FC striker Lucas Joao.
The summer transfer window closes at 11pm tonight in England and most of Europe, but clubs in Turkey have an extra week before their deadline ends.
Joao has been linked with several clubs throughout the summer but Reading are determined to keep him.
According to reports in Turkey, Fenerbahce manager Jorge Jesus is eager to sign the striker and has asked the board to launch an official offer.
However, Paul Ince has made it clear in previous weeks that Joao is not for sale as he was recently linked with a move to West Brom.
Ince said: “”No news, Lucas (Joao) is not going anywhere.
“I don’t know why these rumors are popping up.
“Since pre-season and even before pre-season when I was in Barbados on vacation, there were rumors about him, but that’s just not happening.
Due to restrictions placed on Reading by the EFL, they were limited to signing players on loan and as free agents.
Joao has become a central figure for Berkshire since arriving from Sheffield Wednesday in August 2019 for around £5m.
His first season at Reading was cut short by injury but he managed to score six goals in 19 league appearances.
The following season under Veljko Paunovic saw Joao flourish as his goals put the Royals in play-off contention for the entire season, until they missed late.
He scored 19 goals in 39 league games in the 2020/21 season.
A hip injury sidelined Joao for more than five months at the start of the 2021/22 season.
But he returned from a long-term injury and showed excellent form to help the Royals in their relegation fight.
Joao scored 10 times in 21 games and received the EFL Player of the Month award for February.
