‘UFOs or the Bat-Signal?’ Strange lights spotted in Reading
Strange orange lights in the sky over Reading left residents “daunted” on Saturday.
The “mysterious” beam turned the clouds orange and could be seen as far away as Wokingham at 5am.
Onlookers speculated it could be UFOs or the Bat-Signal, but the most compelling suggestion was that the light was caused by lamps used to grow grass at Select Car Leasing Stadium.
“I was driving home from work and was impressed by this mysterious light. Curious to know what it was,” one Facebook account said.

“The light was also seen at 6 p.m. on Friday, according to a commentator: “It caught my eye last night because it was too late, it would be a sunset. It looked like a fire-lit sky, but no smoke?
Several people have suggested that these were grow lights used to maintain Reading FC‘s football ground.
“Went to Nandos last night and saw the stadium lit up. Quite a sight. Interesting way to grow some grass,” one Facebook user said.
The Chronicle understands that Reading FC re-seeded the football pitch and covered it with white seedling sheets which reflected the light from the grow lights upwards, casting it onto the clouds.
