Wokingham Sports Awards 2020/21 – who will get your vote?

THE COUNTDOWN for the annual Wokingham Borough Sports Awards has started, and the Wokingham Borough Sports Council is now calling for nominations for deserving athletes, coaches and teams.

Nominations are sought from individuals, schools, teams and clubs that have produced outstanding performances in various categories since September 2019.

Prizes will be awarded in the following categories: High School of the Year, Elementary School of the Year, Sports Services (Club and Individual), Coach of the Year, Sports Services for the Disabled, Unsung Hero, team (men and women), Excellence in Sport, Courage, Spirit of Sport and Volunteer of the Year.

There are also individual awards for under 14s and under 18s (boys and girls) as well as senior women and men, and the sports council is looking for someone who has produced outstanding performance within the team. ‘a club or at a representative level, as club champion.

This is the first time the awards ceremony has been held face-to-face since 2019 due to the Covid-19 pandemic, and this year it is scheduled to take place on Friday, November 26 at the Bulmershe Leisure Center in Woodley.

Cllr Parry Batth, Executive Member for Environment and Recreation, said: “We have so many talented athletes in our borough and these annual awards usually attract very high level nominations.

“It has been a particularly difficult year for sport due to the pandemic, but many have still achieved so much.

“I am delighted that we are celebrating so many remarkable accomplishments in the sport.

“Do you know anyone who has excelled at a certain sport? Or maybe it’s a school, a team or a club? If so, we want to hear from you. So please don’t delay, nominate today.

Registrations are open until Monday, October 18. Visit www.wokingham.gov.uk/sports-and-activities/sports-courts-pitches-and-facilities/ to vote.
