Stockton Police arrested a woman on Sunday in connection with a tent fire in which one person was killed and another injured in Mormon Slough.

Erica Mora, 40, was arrested near Phelps and 10th Street in Stockton and held in the San Joaquin County Jail, police said.

At around 5.33pm on July 7, a 35-year-old man and a 40-year-old woman were inside a tent in Mormon Slough near Airport Way when someone set fire to the tent and the two occupants, according to the police. .

Three engines from the Stockton Fire Department responded to the blaze, Battalion Chief Brandon Doolan said, and both victims were transported to San Joaquin General Hospital. The man died of his injuries in hospital, police said.

The victim has been identified but his name has not been released, Christy Patterson, a spokeswoman for the San Joaquin County medical examiner, said Thursday.

A police spokesperson said the motive may have been a relationship dispute.

“(Mora) went back and found her boyfriend with another woman, and poured gasoline on the tent and intentionally set it on fire,” spokesman Officer Joseph Silva said.

Mora was scheduled to appear in San Joaquin County Superior Court for the first time on Tuesday afternoon for arraignment.
